If you’re looking for ways to get outside and enjoy the spring weather, look no further! Staunton has some amazing outdoor spots and activities for you to enjoy. Whether you’re looking to go for a hike, bike ride, or just take in the scenery, there’s something for everyone. Here are five of our favorites!
-Shenandoah National Park: Virginia’s very own national park is just down the road! Shenandoah is perfect for a day (or more) of hiking, camping, and exploring. Visit the Byrd Visitor Center to learn about the history of the park, enjoy ranger programs, eat at one of the many restaurants, and enjoy over 500 miles of trails!
-Betsy Bell Wilderness Park: Betsy Bell Wilderness Park offers a magnificent view of the Shenandoah Valley from its observation platform at an elevation of 1,959 feet. The observation platform can be accessed by four-wheel drive vehicles or by hiking or mountain biking up the challenging access road.
-Horseback Riding: There are several stables near Staunton that offer horseback riding lessons and trail rides. The Staunton area offers miles of horse-riding trails for riders of all skill levels. This is a great activity for all ages and a great way to explore the beautiful Virginia countryside!
-Frontier Culture Museum: The Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia is an outdoor museum tells the story of the thousands of people who migrated to colonial America. Enjoy a self-guided tour through 11 permanent exhibits that allow visitors to experience “living history” as communicated through costumed interpreters in both the Old World and American sections of the Museum.
-Historic Downtown Staunton: A visit to Historic Downtown Staunton is a great way to spend an afternoon or weekend. Stroll through downtown and enjoy local shops, restaurants, breweries; or stop in the Staunton Visitor Center for more information on many of the historic landmarks around downtown.
