Staying fit while staying at home is just one of the many challenges facing us during this time. While gyms are starting to reopen, running is still consistently one of the most popular forms of exercise. In the United States alone, almost 60 million people participate in running, jogging, and trail running! Maybe you are already a jogger, or you have always wanted to take it up, either way, running allows you to get exercise and get out of the house, all while maintaining social distancing guidelines!
It Can Help Your Mood:
Finding motivation for exercise can be even more difficult than the actual exercise, but physical activity can help promote a healthy mind as well as a healthy body and can help with anxiety and stress. Physical activity helps with your body’s production of endorphins and can help relax you and improve your sleep.
It’s Easy To Get Started:
You don’t need to worry about ordering any expensive equipment or needing a trainer to get started. Jogging is one of the easiest exercises to begin, all you need is a pair of shoes! While it is important to ensure you have the proper footwear to avoid injuries, you probably already have a pair of sports sneakers lying around. For every person beginning a new routine of physical activity, it’s important to listen to your body and stop if you experience pain or extended soreness. Jogging is considered a high-impact exercise and might not be right for those with frequent joint pain. Even if taking up jogging isn’t right for you, just walking is a great way to keep up your physical activity, get some fresh air, and enjoy the outdoors.
You Can Do It Almost Anywhere:
Here in Staunton, there are lots of great parks and trails to plan a running route. In some places, you can even bring your pooch! Don’t forget, even if you are just taking a jog around your neighborhood, it’s always best to let someone know where you have gone and when you plan to be back!

Finding safe activities during this time can be challenging and to help keep everyone safe, be sure to stay at least six feet away from other people at parks or on trails.
While we all cope with stress in different ways, it’s been proven that exercise can help reduce it and allow you to get out of the house! If you’ve never considered jogging before now might be the right time to get started. Maybe even as things reopen and go back to normal, you’ll decide to keep it up!
