The celebration has deep roots in Staunton, dating back to 1970 when The Statler Brothers noticed little was happening in Gypsy Hill Park on Independence Day and decided to create a hometown tradition. Originally known as Happy Birthday U.S.A., the event grew into a major local staple. After The Statler Brothers ended their run in 1994, local volunteers took over and have kept it going ever since.

The Happy Birthday America parade starts its loop around the park at 10:00 AM on July 4th, so plan to arrive early if you want a good viewing spot. The Firecracker 5K
